Alphonso mangoes
I did not realise that I was surrounded by closet alphonso mango lovers until I happened to order a box of them while making an order online for my Lock & Lock airtight containers (curiously my suppliers of Lock & Lock containers also sell boxes of mangoes) . I started to get requests for add-on orders from my mango loving colleagues! And when the boxes of mangoes arrived, I received moans from others for not letting them know I was ordering in the first place. Apparently, alphonso mangoes are everyone’s secret favourite mangoes! (Ok, at least by those who sit around me in the office!)

Alphonso mangoes
What is so special about Alphonsos mangoes?
They are small, yellow in colour with a touch of pink, like a rosy cheek. The texture is soft and smooth and not too stringy. They are sweet and rich in flavour. I tried eating them at room temperature thinking that the flavour might be more intense when they were warm but it turned out that I actually prefer having them cold- not only they tasted just as good, they were also more refreshing. Highly recommended!

Alphonso mangoes are from India and they are available only for a short period of time each year, from late April to June to be precise.

Just in case you also complain that I did not tell you: I bought my mangoes online from Spice of India . It only cost £7.95 for a box of 6. Apparently, they cost around £12 from shops usually! It is good that I do not need to go to special shop to look for them. Even better I can enjoy the mangoes fresh as they arrive from Mumbai on Monday and get dispatched the next day!
